Des Moines, Iowa

HilaryHilary, 20's, mother of three, came out to shoot in response to a casting call I posted while in Des Moines.

We shot and shot and shot, largely because I didn't have enough light to ensure that I could get the shots I wanted.  I ended up still not taking as many photos as I'd like to, but it was a good exercise and Hilary was a great, willing model.

This was also a great primer on what I hope will become the pattern for the future, since I hope to drive around the country taking pictures of people all over the place.  Besides light (which, of course, I'll bring when the trip is about taking pictures rather than making rock concerts), I'll also need plenty of space, probably a backdrop and stands, and lots of ideas for "alternate" (or 3rd-type) shoots.  I should also come up with a cool name for the alternate shoots because "alternate" just sounds dumb.

I didn't do any HDR this time, which was a conscious decision, but I like how things came out with Karen, so I'm definitely going to bring it back when the background and color scheme warrants it.  The light and surroundings I was working with was much more sepia-toned than in the shoot I did with Karen, so there was little reason to try to create some HDR imagery out of it.
